The Garland which is placed on Mahabahu it also touches near the Ratna Singhasana , is named as PAYARA MALA. It is made of only TULASI and Flowers. The length of Garland of Mahaprabhu Shree Jagannath is 16 hands, The length of Garland of Bada Thakura Balabhadra is 14 hands, The length of Garland of Maa Subhadra is 12 hands.
In Payar mala there are no knots at the ends. And the ends hangs half a way of Mahabahu and the middle portion touches the Singhasana.
Chandana Besha :
The word ‘Chandana’ means sandal wood, the sweet-scented paste of which is smeared on the divine body of the Mahapravu in the month of Baishakha and Jyeshtha, spreading over 42 days during Chandana Yatra beginning from Akshaya Trutiya Tithi (third day of bright fortnight of Baishakha).
