Prathamastami is a unique Odia festival that celebrates the firstborn child in the family. Observed on the 8th day of the bright fortnight of Margasira (November-December), it is a time for families to express their love and gratitude for the eldest child and seek blessings for their long life and prosperity.
This festival holds deep cultural significance in Odisha. Traditionally, the firstborn child is seen as a bearer of responsibility and a custodian of family traditions . Prathamastami acknowledges their role in the family and seeks to bless them with continued well-being.
