Observing the Anavasara with Strict Observance the Shree Mandir

The period of Anavasara (when the deities are considered to be resting) begins the day after the sacred Snana Yatra (bathing festival) and continues until the day before the Navjauvan Darshan (youthful appearance). During this time, strict rules of Anavasara are followed in the Shree Mandir. Let’s learn about these rules.

1. No one should speak to anyone.

2. No singing should be done.

3. No musical instruments should be played.

4. No dancing should take place.

5. Should not speak harshly out of anger.

6. Should not make any sound.

7. Should not throw stones or bricks.

8. Should not touch anyone intimately.

9. Should not use fragrant substances.

10. Should not apply Tilak (a religious mark) on the forehead.

11. Should not offer flower garlands.

12. Should not read the Mahatmya (stories of glory) of Purushottama (Lord Vishnu).

13. Should only chant the Narasimha Mantra.

14. Should not ring bells.

15. Should not write any pictures.

Devotees observe this Anavasara with great devotion. They do not apply oil on their bodies, wear white clothes and go to the Anavasara Griha (shrine), do not carry any burden on their shoulders. They perform secret service and offer worship with white flowers instead of Tulsi (holy basil). No mantras are recited during the Anavasara puja; it is a puja performed solely out of devotion.
