Thursday Rituals in Puri Jagannath Temple
The Puri Jagannath Temple, a revered Hindu pilgrimage site, observes numerous rituals throughout the year. Among these, the rituals performed on Thursdays, known as Gurubar Neetis, hold special significance. These rituals are primarily categorized into two: Majana and Ekanta.
Majana
Majana, or cleansing, is a ritual performed after the morning puja. The deities of Sridevi, Bhudevi, and Madanmohan are carried to the Majana Mandap, a dedicated platform. Here, they are bathed, adorned with sandalwood paste, and offered special prayers and food offerings.
Ekanta, meaning seclusion, is another important Thursday ritual. Sridevi and Madanmohan are taken to the Jagamohan of the Maa Mahalaxmi Temple. They are adorned, offered prayers, and then returned to their respective places in the main temple.
These rituals, along with many others, contribute to the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of the Puri Jagannath Temple.
