Jala Adhibasa of the Lord for the Pushyabhisheka Ritual
TheΒ AdhibasaΒ (consecration) ritual is performed today, on theΒ Chaturdashi TithiΒ (14th lunar day), just a day beforeΒ Pausha Purnima, following the completion of theΒ ChandanalagiΒ (sandalwood application) ritual.
For this purpose, theΒ Bhoga MandapaΒ (offering hall) is thoroughly washed and cleaned, and a canopy (Chandua) is hung. Ghee and water, brought from theΒ Rosha KupaΒ (temple kitchen well) in new earthen pots, are kept in special containers calledΒ Parakhi. The ghee is divided intoΒ 21 potsΒ (Gara) and the water intoΒ 87 pots. These are then arranged in four rows under the canopy.
Regarding the distribution among the deities:
-
For each of the main deities (Bada),Β 25 pots of waterΒ andΒ 6 pots of gheeΒ are used.
-
ForΒ Lord Sudarshana,Β 12 pots of waterΒ andΒ 3 pots of gheeΒ are allocated.
The temple priest (Deula Purohita) covers these pots with a special silk cloth calledΒ Chemedi PataniΒ and performs the consecration (Adhibasa) by offering flowers and sandalwood paste. Afterwards, the doors of the Bhoga Mandapa are closed and sealed with the official seal (Mudra) by theΒ Tadhapa Karana.
Following theΒ Bada Singhara Bhoga, the area is washed again. TheΒ BhadrasanaΒ (ceremonial seat) is prepared, and theΒ Adhibasa MirrorΒ is consecrated in front of Lord Jagannath with the chanting of sacred mantras and the application of sandalwood paste. The four sides of the Bhadrasana are sealed with sticky clay. After these rituals, offerings of coconut water and betel nut (Bidia Manohi) are made, and the deities go to sleep (Pahuda).
Additionally, aΒ Yajna ShalaΒ (sacrificial shed) is constructed by theΒ Kotha SuansiaΒ (temple workers) in front of theΒ Pratihari NijogaΒ office within the inner courtyard of the temple. TheΒ AnkurarpanaΒ ritual (sowing of seeds for germination) was previously completed by the temple priest during theΒ Sandhya DhupaΒ on theΒ Shukla EkadashiΒ day. πβ€οΈ
