Bakula Amabasya & Sagara Bije
Bakula Amabasya & Sagara Bije: The Scent of Spring & Sea
Embrace the divine transition of nature on Bakula Amabasya (Pausa Amavasya). On this day, the fresh blossoms of the Mango tree (Baula) are offered to Lord Jagannath, symbolizing the onset of spring and agricultural prosperity. The Lords are offered a special delicacy called Gaintha Pitha.
Coinciding with this is the majestic Sagara Bije ritual. Lord Narayana (the representative deity) travels in a grand palanquin to the Mahodadhi (Sea) for a ritualistic bath. Since Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the ocean, the Sea is considered the Lord’s father-in-law, making this a divine visit to His in-laws’ abode
